Day 9, 5th
March

This
is today's trip...
A gruelling day ahead... lots of
walking. hahaha All around
Launceston, the map might look small but it's big walk.
|
 |
So
after a great breakfast at Balmoral On York, Keith and Kevin headed off to
explore Launceston and in particular, Cararact Gorge, but first they'll
walk into town to see the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania.
This was quite a collection of
mostly registered vehicles and the entry was a Ford theme, so naturally
Kevin had to be there. |
|
There were quite a few classic cars on
show, but let not bore you all with all the Ford photos as there were lots
of different varieties there as well as a collection of bikes. |
|
Keith looks over some of older cars on
display... |
|
Just so as we're not one eyed... hahaha |
|
Some of the BMW's on show. |
|
Walking back from the Auto Museum and
walking through the park, they came across a Monkey enclosure???
They are Macaque monkeys and were a
gift to Launceston from its sister city in Japan.
|
 |
On the way to
Cataract Gorge look what they stumbled upon... But the gorge was calling
and a tour of the brewery would have to wait. |
 |
A view of the
start of Cataract Gorge. They plan walking up the right side side
and back across the ridge of the left side. It's going to be a lonnnngggg
walk. |
 |
Besides the
walk there is also a cruise that runs up and down the river, but it can't
go all the way to the end like the walk can. |
 |
Further along
the walk was a crow with what looked like an eel that may have been a
little to close the river's surface.
|
 |
Around the
end of where the river cruise ends, the gorge closes in to a rocky stream
and looking back at the bridge now seems along way upstream. |
 |
Further along
and now climbing up the right side, it now starts to reveal a recreational
area. |
 |
Once they had
climbed up the right side, they came across a chairlift service that would
take them across the other side. This photo was taken halfway
across.
With the centre span being 308
metres, makes this the longest single chairlift span in the world. |
 |
After the
chairlift, they started the trek back up the left side, with a sign
stating it was for hikers only, and today Keith and Kevin became hikers,
not bikers...
This photo shows the right side
track way below them and what you can't see is the river between. |
 |
Before the
downward trek Kevin stopped to take a shot of the start of the right side
track with Launceston in the background... |
 |
After the
days adventure and the closing of the Safari everyone gathered for the
farewell dinner. Waiting for each was a three course meal and all
the beer and wine they could drink, bearing in mind that tomorrow is the
final ride to Devonport and the start of the trek home for many. |
